When we give in the world what we want the most, we heal the broken part inside each of us. — Eve Ensler
V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery. It is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.
Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues; A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer; Any One Of Us; screenings of V-Day’s documentary Until The Violence Stops; and the PBS documentary What I Want My Words To Do To You etc., to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities. In 2012, over 5,800 V-Day benefit events took place produced by volunteer activists in the U.S. and around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls.
V-Day Hong Kong will happen on February 14, 2013 (Thursday) at Bisous Hong Kong in LKF Tower, Central. V-Day event is on its 5th year in Hong Kong and this year’s benefit performance will be The Vagina Monologues. All the money raised will be going to HER Fund, which mobilizes resources to empower women and girls to create change in communities for gender equality.
The award-winning play is based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler‘s interviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace the piece celebrates women’s sexuality and strength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives. For more than twelve years, The Vagina Monologues has given voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public.
As a woman, this is an important cause to support. So, I have accepted the challenge to be one of the actresses for the Vagina Monologues, especially after listening to Eve Ensler on TED talking about her life experiences and the stories of the women she met. It’s an amazing and inspiring talk learning about what women around the world went through.
Tickets will be sold at the door for HK$250. Ticket price includes a drink. There will also be a special guest performances by The Vixens and The Desert Mermaids. Hope to see you there.
